Where to ride?

Postby NWC » Thu Mar 19, 2009 8:32 am

Hey guys, where are some other places to ride in the area besides Harbison and Sesqui? I just moved to Lugoff and hate the drive to Harbison and don't care too much for Sesqui. Any suggestions? No one in Lugoff seems to know what a MTB is, let alone where to ride one. I've been riding down some of the utility corridors, but am afraid some local "beau" may mistake me for a deer.

Thanks for any suggestions

There's Poinsett down near Sumter. I don't remember the road number that you turn onto from 378, but mtbreview.com has a trail guide that can fill you in. I think the best riding near Columbia is in Newberry, though. Lynches Woods is right behind the tech college on 76 and has a good 8 mile single track loop.

Hwy 261. You can pre-purchase your permit online, and you know you're in the right place when you see the signs for the Shaw AFB bombing range.

Every time I ride there I'm hoping to see some explosions...from far away.

Thanks. Sumter is closer than Harbison for me. Are there any hills?

I don't think there are any real hills until the end of the loop but once you're there they don't call it the "Killer 3" for nothing.
